Volunteering the Good, the Great and the Better.
Helping others and giving back are two important actions everyone should do. But what if you don’t really know what volunteering is or how to get out there and help?
Well today you’re going to find out!
Basic Concept:
Volunteering has a pretty simple concept. It’s basically lending a helping hand to a cause that will not pay in money but often pays in other things like spiritual well-being or self-satisfaction.
Helping out also doesn’t have to mean giving your adulthood to the peace corps. It can be as simple as helping out in an animal shelter or accompanying a senior citizen in their activities . Doing this as I said helps your spiritual virtue increase and is a very important if not essential part of your college application.
College Aid:
As many of you know volunteering can and is an important part of your portrayal to college admissions because being well-rounded as a person is what they look for. Someone who gives back to their community and cares about others is a good virtue that will make a college admissions officer hesitate before rejecting your application and will make them know you didn’t waste your free-time doing nothing but instead went out and tried to make your community a better place.
Volunteering Opportunities:
For teens like us, all volunteering options are unfortunately available because we are not over 18, however there are a multitude of places where we can volunteer in.
New York Cares:This great organization connects not only adults but also dedicates a whole section to the youth and the various different positions a youth can take
The Teen Service Team is a structured volunteering site that lets teenagers apply and once accepted you attend orientation dates and volunteer on the assigned dates.
Local Clubs: The most accessible way to volunteer as teens are your local school clubs. Our school for example has two great clubs dedicated to the effort of volunteering. One of them includes the Red Cross which is part of a larger youth organization which is part of an even larger organization known internationally as the Red Cross. The 2nd one is called UNICEF which is also part of a big organization known for the pursue of peace.
Volunteering is a great thing to do and now that you know ways to do it, get out there and make the world a better place one helping hand at a time.
