POETRY: “ME”

By Osasere Imade

ME

Does my blackness offend you?

Does the lightness of my skin offend you?

Or how about my black features?

If I become angry why do I become an “angry black woman?”

Why not an angry woman?

Does it matter that there are many of me and few of you?

Now you know how I feel when I watch a movie.

One in a billion I am.

But I will not be gunned down by my skin.

I will not be held back by my skin, but

I will achieve with my skin,

And be happy with my skin

My features, color, race, or religion  is not your priority,

But it is mine.

I will be heard because,

I am one in billion.
