What are Zodiac Signs? *

     Before we get to know what Zodiac Signs are, first we have to know what the word “Zodiac” means. The word “Zodiac” is an imaginary belt of the heavens that is centered on the “ecliptic” (Great Circle on the Celestial Sphere that represents the Sun’s annual path). If you want a simpler definition of this word,  the Greek form of Zodiac is “Zodiakos” which means circle of animals which coincidentally, is what Zodiac Signs are all about!  Zodiac Signs are constellations that were originally divided into 13 distinct parts, each representing their own Zodiac Sign and Symbol.

       Believe it or not, the signs of the Zodiac were first discovered in Babylonia, (Mesopotamia) between 3200-500 B.C.—which makes these little symbols pretty ancient! They used horoscopic astrology, or whatever they called it back then, and started analyzing the seasonal movements of the sun, moon and planets. They divided the Zodiac into 12 evenly divided sections that represent astrological aspects of space and time on earth.

Capricorn: December 22nd – January 19th

      The first Zodiac sign in this article as shown in recent Zodiac charts, is the Capricorn. Anybody who was born between the time December 22nd and January 19th   is classified as Capricorn. Their ruling planet is Saturn and their animal is the sea-goat. Their element is Earth. People who were born under this sign are usually responsible people who are loyal to their friends and loved ones.  If there’s no Aries around, they are usually the ones leading the charge. They are the most realistic and down-to-earth sign of them all. They will most likely possess jobs that have a managerial status, or a CEO title of some sort, due to their ability to manage many people at the same time. They love working. They love working so much that they are considered Workaholics, and great people to hire for jobs that require staying long hours doing various tasks. Capricorns are determined and will try everything to achieve their goal. They do have some bad traits though. They are pretty strict, especially if it is about something they like to do. They are normally unforgiving so if you deceive or try to deceive someone who is under this sign, prepare for them to dislike you and to never forget what you did.

Aquarius: January 20th – February 19th

      If you were born between  January 20th and February 19th, your sign is the Aquarius Zodiac sign. Their element is Air and their ruling planets are Uranus and Saturn.  The symbol of the Aquarius is the Water Bearer (the image you see above).  They are shy and quiet but also can be energetic and free-spirited. Aquarians are pretty intelligent and progressive. They are independent persons as well as deep thinkers. To other people, Aquarians are  good listeners, they like to help others, and they are fun to hang around with. Their weaknesses are that they are easily distracted which makes it hard for them to finish their tasks. They often don’t respond well to criticism but will happily judge others for their flaws and failures, so try your best and don’t judge an Aquarius, unless you want to be clapped back by them.

      Ah yes, Pisces. The most creative Zodiac sign of them all. Ruled by the almighty planets Neptune and Jupiter. This sign is  symbolized by two fishes. Their element is Water. People who are born between February 20th and March 20th are extremely creative and sensitive. They are affectionate, thoughtful and selfless, pretty good for a friend. They are intelligent as well as gentle and pretty wise. They also don’t mind being in solitude for long amounts of time as they use that time to be imaginative and creative in their minds while listening to music or reading a book. To top it all off, they are really forgiving and are almost never judgemental. If you ever want a Pisces as your friend but were not sure what they’d be like, now you know. Even though they have a multitude of good traits and things about them, there are still some drawbacks to them. You know the saying, “Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing”?, well this relates to Pisces. Sometimes they are so engrossed in their imagination,  that they will have a desire to escape reality. They can also be too trusting and therefore will fall for a deception easier.

Aries: March 21st – April 20th

      The most fearless  sign of them all, if you were born between March 21st and April 20th, you are the mighty ram! This sign is symbolized by a ram of course for their aggressive, brutish and courageous nature. Their element is  red, hot Fire! People who were born under this intimidating sign are born leaders! They are courageous at heart. They are confident with what they do so expect them to lead the charge into the unknown or be the main person talking during a presentation. They are determined like Capricorns, as well as optimistic and like looking at the world through positive lenses. They are honest fellows who are passionate about the craft they do or attempt. People who are Aries are usually pretty competitive and will try everything they can to outperform competitors. They are most fond of partaking in physical challenges but dislike inactivity in any form since they are, after all, the most active sign. Aries are super impatient as well as short-tempered and moody so make sure you are not on their bad side. Even though out of all the signs, they are the most aggressive, they are also the most confident and courageous.

      Taurus, reliable yet stubborn. People who were born between the dates of April 21st and May 20th were born under the Taurus Zodiac sign. The symbol that represents Taurus is the bull—mostly for it’s stubbornness. Their element is Earth.  The ruling planet for this sign is Venus. People who are under the Taurus sign are people who are usually reliable so you can count on them to do certain tasks and what not. Unlike Aries who are impatient people, Taurus is the contrary. They are incredibly patient people who don’t mind waiting hours to days for something to happen. People who are Taurus are responsible and stable people so they will usually turn in their homework on time unless they have a really valid reason for turning in their work late. Taurus are particularly fond of Gardening and Cooking  because of their good sense of taste and touch. They also have some negative traits though, as people who fall under the Taurus sign are usually stubborn and not too fond of sudden changes in the environment. Taurus is also possessive.  When they own something, they really want to make it known that it’s theirs.

Gemini: May 21st – June 20th

      Multiple people believe that Gemini is the best Zodiac sign to be. If you don’t know what sign they are talking about then here it is. If you were born between the dates of May 21stand June 20th then you fall under the Zodiac Sign known as Gemini. The symbol that will solely represent Gemini are Twins because of their childish innocence and caring nature. Their ruling planet is Mercury. Their element is Air. People who fall under this Zodiac sign are usually really happy and enthusiastic people. They are adaptive, meaning that they can quickly change habits in different situations. They are able to learn new things quickly which makes them fairly quick-witted and smart. They are gentle, affectionate and compassionate towards other people, and always greets them with a warming smile. Yet even the alleged best Zodiac sign does have its flaws. They can be nervous at times when they are overwhelmed with something and are afraid that they’ll disappoint someone, or fail at their tasks. Geminis often have two personalities, one minute they can be nice and sweet but a minute later, they can be serious and ruthless.  This is why their symbol represents twins, they are sometimes unpredictable. People of this sign can be good writers, and other kinds of artists, because of their multiple personalities.

Cancer: June 21st – July 22nd

      Known as one of the most sympathetic and caring, and yet challenging Zodiac signs to know, people born between the dates of June 21st and July 22ndwere born under the Cancer sign. Their element is Water and their planet, (or should I say, ‘Moon’) is the Moon. Cancers are mostly known for their loyalty, high doses of imagination and emotional sensitivity. They deeply care about and are sympathetic towards people they are close with. Like Pisces, Cancers tend to be imaginative dreamers.  Cancers are highly emotional and care mostly about emotion in a relationship. Since they display so much emotion, they are often portrayed as weak, and sometimes don’t pay enough attention to the present, or the real world. Cancers never forget who hurt them emotionally. If you ever hurt a Cancer’s feelings, they will hold a grudge against you for a long time, so Try not to hurt them, especially if they are your friend.

      Symbolized by the intimidating Lion, to signify their leadership and stubbornness, Leos are often known and praised for their self-confidence, regal guidance, and generosity. Whoever is born between the dates of July 23rd and August 22nd are born under this sign. Their element is Fire and their ruling planet is, well it’s not really a planet because it’s the Sun! People who fall under this sign are usually like Aries and Taurus, born leaders. They always want to be known as ‘The King of the Jungle’, hence the lion as their Zodiac symbol. They are self confident and are able to achieve anything they want if they commit to it. They also have a sense of humor, making them fun and funny to hang around with. On the other hand, they are also stubborn.  If someone disagrees with their decision, prepare for a war between you two. They are also pretty lazy, even though they have a lot of energy. Sometimes when they’re lazy they’ll send other people off to do tasks the Leos don’t want to do.

Virgo: August 23rd – September 22nd

      This sign is a sign of fierce loyalty and of people who are hard workers. If you were born between the dates August 23rd and September 22nd, then you are likely to be a Virgo. A Virgo’s element is Earth. Their ruling planet is Mercury, like Gemini. Their symbol as you can see above, represents a Maiden. People who were born under this sign are hard workers who are practical and analytical thinkers. They are undeniably loyal towards their friends and especially their family. Virgos always pay attention to the smallest detail, as the smallest of details can make the biggest impact. They usually base their opinions on logic and methodical approaches, since they don’t think that things are based on chance. After all the positive traits of this sign, there are some negatives. Virgos can be shy at times and have a hard time expressing their feelings and emotions. When it comes to something involving reason or logic, they don’t really think feelings should be a valid or relevant factor.

Libra: September 23rd – October 22nd

      This sign has been called the nicest sign of them all. People who were born between September 23rd and October 22nd were born under the Libra Zodiac sign. Their element is Air and their ruling planet is Venus. Libras are peaceful and fair people. They hate being alone so they need at least one person to accompany them. They desire for everything to be symmetrical, balanced, or maintaining equilibrium. This is why their symbols are scales, specifically scales at a perfect balance.  Nothing is seen as weightier  or more important than the other. They want the environment around them to achieve perfect balance as well as harmony and peace. They want to please everyone around them and if someone hurts them, they usually forgive them, unless that person repeatedly hurts them, then they never forget what they did. Libras try their best to avoid confrontations, so don’t really expect them to be in a verbal or physical argument with anyone. Like you might’ve expected, Libras deeply dislike violence, as it completely tampers with the balance and peace Libras want to achieve. They also hate injustice for the same reasons.

Scorpio:  October 23rd – November 22nd

      Known as the meanest Zodiac sign, Scorpios are passionate and assertive. Anybody who is born between October 23rd to November 22nd are under the Scorpio sign. Their element is Water and their ruling  planets are Pluto and Mars. The animal that represents Scorpio is the Scorpion because of their aggressiveness and intensity. People who are Scorpios are often stubborn people who are brave and passionate about what they do for a living. When they need an answer to something they don’t know, they will search and gather up important and informative data for a sufficient conclusion.  They will be great for debates due to their resourcefulness and assertive nature. Scorpios are all about the facts, and they will not believe you unless you have facts. They love the truth and despise lies and dishonesty. They can get violent when need be, hence their symbol. They also hate passive people,  since Scorpios are basically the polar opposite of passive in their general attitude and approach to life.
