It’s the first year of high school, meaning it’s the season to start getting cool and have endless hangouts with friends. Although, to an extent, yes it is possible. However, there are several other factors you should start considering. Of course, you want the best year before things get harder just like everyone says, but this isn’t the year to slack; no year ever is, so we want to provide you with a list of things that you should start keeping in mind and doing to utilize this year for your future.
#1: Don’t Use This Year As The “Slack Year”
We get it; everyone says Freshman year is the easiest and most laid-back year out of all the years. The pressure of college starts getting serious, and so much stress accumulates with the worries about good extracurriculars. So, why not use this year to cut down on some slack? Since good colleges require a 4.0 GPA, it’s crucial to try to maintain your grades at least between 85 to 90 or as high as possible. For students that need extra resources to keep up their grades, our school provides tutoring sessions for every single class.
#2: Start Joining Clubs & Build Your Social Circle
If it’s not now, it’s more difficult later. A lot of us are kind of unsocial; we get it, however, usually, Freshman year is the best time to acquire some social skills. They’ll be not just helpful, but extremely helpful as you continue through the years. This year is also the time to start thinking about which clubs you want to join and actually join them. These are our suggestions for you to utilize joining clubs: Join one you want on your brag sheet and one for your pleasure. If anything, you could just join clubs that you like. Try to explore around a bit and you might discover some new things that interest you as you test out clubs. Over time, stay committed to one. You’ll make new friends and hold an essential role to yourself at that club the more time and effort you put into it.
#3: Have fun
I know, I know. It’s very obvious but we mean it when we say that you should have fun. When your seniors tell you that it gets difficult over the years, they do mean it. We don’t mean to scare you, yet sometimes you’ll have to utilize your time towards education in the future. You will find yourselves and should dedicate some time if you want to get into a good college. It’s unfortunate, but it’ll definitely help in the long run. Besides, there should be something you can look back to during your Freshman year, so why not make as many memories as possible? Each year is special and unique in its way.
