LETTERS FROM YOUR 2018-2019 EDITORS

FROM OUR EDITOR IN CHEIF:  Fariha Fawziah

It was the second week of freshmen year, and the PA announcement mentioned a recruiting meeting for the Newspaper Club in the library after school. I knew I had little experience and I wasn’t the best writer, but my curiosity led me to the meeting. In the meeting, I was excited about the possibility of stepping out of my comfort zone as I would discover more things about myself and the state of the world as a member of the Newspaper Club.

Throughout the years, the writers of the MCSM Rampage have taught me so many things. They have taught me to be ambitious and passionate about specific issues. They have provided insight into the world of teachers, student-athletes and research students truly conveying the diversity of the student body of MCSM. They have written moving articles on breaking sexism and racism which have given me a new appreciation for the power of words.

From that first meeting to now, I have not only grown by improving my writing skills, but I have also matured mentally. I never saw myself as a leader, but now I find myself Editor-in-Chief of our school Newspaper. This club provided me with a family, one which I look forward to leading this year.

My plan for what the Rampage will offer our school this year is that we will help students in MCSM to become unified, represented, and well informed about not only the school but current events that are happening in the world right now.  I look forward to encouraging and teaching staffers to write in genres they hadn’t previously considered, as well as how to master different journalistic styles. I look forward to reading captivating articles that broaden my perspective. I look forward to making the Newspaper Club interactive, and to providing a place for people to thrive, learn about writing, and make friends.

The fact that The Rampage is a place for exploration for all, is truly inspiring. Working with the talented photographers, writers and incredible people that are in the MCSM Rampage Newspaper Club has truly been a blessing. I look forward to working my hardest to make this year’s Rampage the best ever.

As a photo editor, I am here to help you guys get great-looking pictures that can give your writing a kick! I am in charge of taking photographs for your article, editing photos that you have taken, and giving feedback on photos or illustrations that can help make your article stand out!

You can reach me at anndy.serr.12@ gmail.com or at 917-528-2514, so not to worry! I know that you guys will do your best this year, and with the help of our senior staff, we will certainly have a fun, productive year!

A little bit about me: I am a huge math and science nerd and I love to make jokes when I get the time. I am a huge fan of Harry Potter and I love to write poetry! A little fact about me is that I can sing the periodic table song and I can even touch my nose with my tongue, which sounds crazy but I can! I hope I can get to know you guys better, and I will be there to guide you through this whole year, so I am rooting for you guys! Welcome to the Rampage Staff!

LETTER FROM THE COPY-EDITOR :  RIFATH ISLAM

Hello, my name is Rifath Islam, and I go to Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematics. I have been part of the Newspaper Club since the beginning of my career as a high school student.  Today, four years later, I can proudly announce that my position within the club has advanced from just being a dedicated reporter to becoming more deeply involved in our school paper as an editorial copy-editor.

Newspaper Club means a lot to me because ever since I was little I found myself writing about every idea that crossed my mind, but I never quite had an outlet for all the words that flowed from the tips of my fingers to the screen of my computer. Newspaper Club became that outlet for me, and I have found myself writing about every opinion and idea I’ve had since joining. I want this club to have the same value to all students who wish to join from now going forward, and I would love to become one of the reasons other students find joy in writing.

LETTER FROM THE ASSISTANT EDITOR:    LUBIANA MAHRIN

Hi!  My name is Lubiana Mahrin and I am the Assistant Editor for the Newspaper Club. I am currently a senior at MCSM. I joined this club last year and it has been a great environment for me to talk with others about ideas, and for me to write about my own interests. I love writing about personal life stories, events around me, music, and more. I hope my interest in writing blossoms into something that I can use in the future.

I love art, film, media, photography, and music. I hope to bring my thoughtful enthusiasm for all the things I love into this year’s club. I hope as I enter college this club and the people who are part of it, will leave me with lasting memories and knowledge.
