BASKETBALL: Annual Pep Rally supports MCSM vs. Wadleigh

By Samina Ahmed

On November 20, 2018, MCSM held their annual pep rally. Now to be honest, I don’t usually attend many school events but this year’s pep rally had me blown me away. I actually thought that there wasn’t going to be much of a crowd, and that the performances were just going to be people singing and dancing, but I was totally wrong. This pep rally really demonstrated MCSM’s outstanding school spirit and determination.

The Glee Club (below)  kicked it off with “We Will Rock You” (by Queen). The members of the club had the entire audience singing along and stomping their feet to the upbeat song. A powerful way to start off the pep rally!

Afterwards, the MCSM Dance Team shocked everyone with their swift and clean moves. The group did a fantastic job getting every heart in the crowd pumping really fast!

Members of the Glee Club did a duet and sang “Lost Boy” (by Ruth B.) I was surprised by how quickly the audience calmed down, then clapped along to the mellower song. The Glee Club did a splendid job in making the audience feel many emotions through their strong and harmonious vocals.

Next, the African Dance Team (seen below) had me on the edge of my seat! Watching them demonstrate popping moves to traditional beats, the entire crowd went wild.

Not to mention how quick and in sync they were!

After all the performances, it was time for MCSM’s basketball team to play against Wadleigh High School.

MCSM’s team used a well-coordinated series of moves to score one point after the other. This was my first basketball game,  and I have to say I was very impressed with MCSM’s players and the disciplined teamwork they display. Well done!

MCSM’s Dance Team made one last appearance during the halftime break with more fresh moves and fierce outfits. This team did a memorable job with both performances.

Whether they were singing, dancing or playing basketball, MCSM’s students blew the roof off the gym with pure enthusiasm. It is really remarkable how a small number of students can encourage the rest of the school to cleverly chant and cheer in unity as a way of building togetherness and motivation. This pep rally was a wonderful experience for me,  leaving me looking forward to more school events.
