FILM REVIEW: “Little”

By D’Naysha Griggs

Movie Title: ‘Little’ (2019)                Genre: Fantasy/ Comedy

Little, a movie created by the 14-year-old “Black-ish” star Marsai Martin after being inspired by the popular 1988 Tom Hanks movie Big, was a surprise hit, with box-office earnings of over 38 million dollars from theaters around the world.

Martin wanted to see the Big plot work with a change in race, gender and age leading to her becoming the youngest person in history to get credit as the producer of a Hollywood film. The movie is about how a mean older woman named Jordan who is the CEO of a software company is sent back to her middle school self to reflect on how and why she became the woman she is today.

I personally love this film because it’s hilarious, can inspire children that they can do anything, and not only did Martin produce Little, she also starred in it as one of the three leading roles alongside Regina Hall, one of the leading women in 2017 hit movie Girls Trip, and Issa Rae, the creator and star of the HBO series Insecure. This movie is showing that Hollywood is changing by including black women as not only the lead actresses and producers but also the director, Tina Gordon.
