POETRY: “War”

By Avina G.

Was there ever a time where we didn’t have war?

Where we didn’t have to fight for change? Fight for equality?

Fight to be human?

I think the difference between now and a decade ago is that now we have more knowledge. We have more stamina.

But if we have the facts and the information to want to change the world, why don’t we?

Simple.

You think that life will change and fix itself and it’s not your problem.

The problems don’t affect you, you don’t need to help fix it.

We are so blind and selfish.

We have the tools to fix the problems we’ve created.

But since it doesn’t affect us, we don’t care about them.

We make up excuses and think so much about ourselves and sugarcoat the problems so much to the point

where we teach  the next generation to be just as blind.

What does that say about society?

What does that say about human beings?

No other animal kingdom destroy its own kind for the fun of it.

We create our own war and watch it unravel.

That’s what it means to be human.
