POETRY: “Self Doubt”

By Diana Sanchez

Some say to love someone else,

we must love ourselves first,

but how can you love yourself

when your mind is full of doubt.

But, where does that doubt come from?

It comes from you.

It’s like a truck being dropped on our heads,

telling us that we can’t do something,

that something will always go wrong.

What if this happens?

What if that happens?

What if I look dumb?

What if it’s not worth it?

The poison is spreading.

It’s spreading, faster and faster

as you doubt yourself more and more.

The poison spread through your veins,

killing your self-esteem.

As you doubt yourself,

you make life harder for yourself.

Scared to stand out of your shell.

Unwilling to try anything new,

but you need to come through.

When we doubt ourselves we think of the worst.

Why not think of the best?

I will do it.

I will crush it.

I will do great.

Erase the doubt inside of you,

build your strengths and

don’t focus on you weaknesses.

But instead we have a negative mindset,

we degrade our capabilities

because we don’t know our true limits.

Poison bites into us

leaving us with a hole inside of us,

like a rotten apple,

it takes a piece of us and kills it.

Why struggle with this, when you can

turn self-doubt into

self-confidence.

Stop the poison from spreading.

When you do,

you create a blockade

you face your own problems, head on.

Self-confidence isn’t easy to gain.

For some it comes naturally,

but for others it’s difficult.

Remember,

it’s not our lack of ability,

it’s our lack of confidence that prevents us

from achieving what we really desire.

A wise person once said that,

doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will.
