Samina Ahmed
Role: Copy Editor

Hey everyone! I enjoy reading horror novels and dancing in my house when no one is around. If you’re wondering if my dancing is very good, I’ll be honest with you…it’s not. As the Copy Editor of the MCSM Rampage, I help edit stories and guide new reporters on how to approach their story ideas. As a member who has been in this beautiful newspaper team for about three years, I have gained important writing tactics that I will treasure for the rest of my life and met wonderful people with creative minds. As I approach my last year in MCSM Rampage, I hope to see everyone grow into a well-thought-out community who continue to express their innovative minds and to delve into school orientated topics. I hope the Rampage is able to tackle serious issues. I wish the best for the current newspaper members as well as upcoming members. You will have a blast, I guarantee it!

Hi. My name is Deborah George. Currently, I am a junior. I love to watch movies, read books, and try different cuisines. I have been a part of the Rampage staff since freshman year. I enjoy writing about anything and everything. For this year’s newspaper, I hope to write more articles and to learn more about the people and the world around me. Newspaper club allows me to think deeper and to be more curious. Overall, I have great hopes for this year’s articles.

Alex Zhanglam
Role: General Reporter

Hello! I am Alex Zhanglam and I am a senior at Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematics. I’m a huge fan of anime movies, music that ranges from kpop to indie rock, plants, gardening, cooking, photography, adventure and informative podcasts, and design. Currently, I’m a new reporter for the MCSM Rampage, and I want to explore journalism as a hobby of sorts. So far, the Rampage team is brimming with talent and I feel a bit ashamed for not joining sooner. I want to further develop my writing in advice and reviews through the Newspaper club.  My current experience with the team so far has yielded confidence boosts in my writing through critiques and writing recommendations, which will surely help with my future writing in college. Thank you for having me, and please take care of me!

Sabiha Tafader
Role: General Reporter

Hello. My name is Sabiha. I have been part of the MCSM Newspaper club since sophomore year. I enjoy writing poems and articles on science and sports. I see writing as a powerful tool to transform the world around us and the impact it can have around the world. Whether it can motivate a person to start a club at their school or find better ways to study, writing can bring anyone and everyone together and hence why I joined this club at my school. In my free time, I like to read fiction books, play soccer and badminton. I love to volunteer because I see it as a great opportunity to give back to the community. I also love to do rock climbing as this sport truly helped me overcome my fear of heights and it taught me to continuously build confidence in myself.

Kazi Islam
Role: General Reporter

My name is Kazi Islam. I am currently a senior. I love listening to music, taking and editing photos, and drawing. I joined the Newspaper team this year. My goal for 2020 is to write about topics that not only interest me but others as well. I would also like if everyone who is writing articles would decide their topic beforehand and share it with the newspaper team so that we don’t have too many articles on the same topic and repeat the same idea. Additionally, I would like for the newspaper team to encourage each other to be more open minded and focus on a variety of different subjects instead of letting each team member specialize on only what they feel comfortable with. In conclusion, I want to be able to step out of my comfort zone and explore different areas of the news.

Khadija Rida
Role: General Reporter

My name is Khadija Rida. I am in 11th grade. I am a reporter for the newspaper club. I like to write reviews about books and topics that are very dark and mysterious. For the newspaper club I hope that we progress further as a team and are able to write more articles to impact others.

Soyoung Kim
Role: General Reporter

Hi. My name is Soyoung Kim, a sophomore at MCSM in NYC. I like to travel around, listen to music and read about science articles such as Nature Magazine. I have participated in the Rampage since freshman year. Since my mother is a journalist, I have been highly exposed to reading and writing newspapers from my childhood. I joined the Newspaper team because I wanted to explain science in an easier way and write about Asian culture, my ethnic background.

Omar Abdelsalam
Role: General Reporter
My name is Omar Abdelsalam and I am a senior at MCSM class of 2020. I was born in Egypt and moved to the United States during my Sophomore year. I have always wanted to be part of the newspaper club and joined it this year; I like writing and always wanted to share my opinions about different topics. I usually write articles related to my interests in science, technology, and sports. I enjoyed working with passionate people and always try to improve and learn from my mistakes. I plan on joining a Newspaper club during college and for now I just want to improve my writing skills and write articles about social responsibilities and issues facing the community.

D’naysha Griggs
Role: General Reporter

Hi, my name is D’naysha Griggs and I am a senior and I enjoy painting, watching movies and listening to music. I have been part of the newspaper club for about 2 years and I love it. I usually write reviews on movies I find interesting or that just came out. My favorite part is being able to write how I feel freely on my pieces and for my articles I try to stay unbiased and encourage people to watch the movie.

Osasere Imade
Role: General Reporter

My name is Osasere Imade. This is currently my fourth year in newspaper club. I entered the newspaper club as a freshman and have always been interested in school topics or events, including sports te4am. I do always try to venture out of school topics and I deal with articles that are more current to society. I hope that in the future of newspaper club, we continue to cover topics that all our reporters love and enjoy writing about.

Kaya Miller
Role: General Reporter

I usually cover entertainment based topics, such as television shows and books, etc.

My goals for 2020 in the MCSM Rampage are to cover a wide variety of entertainment genres, and to introduce to people what I find in the form of fantastic pieces.

Currently, I’m in the 9th grade.

Amen Dilawar
Role: General Reporter

As a reporter with the MCSM newspaper club, I like to cover controversial topics that are vital to learning and educating ourselves. I think it’s essential to take all viewpoints into consideration before knowing where you stand.
Recently, I finished writing an article about why abortion should be legal. It explained the side that I support, but also what other people believe. I would like to continue to cover world issues, since they are important to be included in the news.

The Newspaper Club is a platform for me to express my voice freely. This is great because writing is not restricted at all. Instead, we are encouraged to write about things that truly define who we are.    Additionally, I also wrote a poem about being yourself and expressing your true identity without any fear. This poem was one of the best poems I wrote because it has a message in it. That message is for individuals to learn that your self-worth is determined by you. I mostly write about influential things that can change people’s views or make them want to look at life from a different angle.

My goal for MCSM Rampage is to write and publish as many articles as I can. I should at least write 6-9 pieces this year so that I can contribute more of my writing to the Rampage and the club itself next year. I would also like to interview or survey people about how they feel about a certain topic. That’d be cool. I aim to try new things this year, maybe like a photo essay. I hope that MCSM Rampage gets blessed with astonishing pieces of work and continues to achieve success in 2020. This is not impossible if all the reporters focus on delivering their news on time, and doing what’s expected of them. With all my hopes up, I look forward to a better future filled with informational news.

Thank you!

Sincerely,  Amen (9th grade)

Enlik Tegasheva
Role:  General Reporter

Hi, I’m Enlik, an 11th grader here at MCSM. I love to write (and read) non-fiction so journalistic articles are some of my favorite reads. Although I joined the Newspaper Club pretty late into the year, I do hope to write articles about student life and events going on here at the school. Additionally, my goal is to highlight and acknowledge certain holidays or current events that are going on. I’m excited to begin publishing my articles, and I hope they’re as enjoyable to read as they are to write.

Shawrna Sen
Role: General Reporter

Hello, my name is Shawrna Sen. I am currently a freshman in Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematics. I really enjoy writing articles about health related topics to keep you healthy and fit. These include both physical and mental health benefits. I joined this club because I wanted to improve my writing skills and make it more engaging. Also, I wanted to express my perspective in a creative way. It is an awesome experience because writing is part of every subject so practicing my writing skills is essential. I hope to engage in more trips to colleges and to observe their newspaper clubs.

Oscar Mata
Role: General Reporter

I’m Oscar Mata, an 11th grader who joined the newspaper club at the start of this school year. Although I haven’t been with the club for long, my time here has been fun and certainly beneficial. I’m sure I can speak for the whole club when I say writing for the Newspaper has greatly improved my writing skills and creative thinking.
I enjoy writing about global issues and current events. I’ve also been wanting to create some fiction stories of my own, but I haven’t gotten to it thus far. Even though I have plenty of ideas to write about, the real challenge comes from finding the motivation to do so. And once I start a piece, I rarely ever get distracted or lose focus. I really appreciate the newspaper club for giving me the opportunity to publish my ideas for all to see.
