The “Bored of Boredom” Nonprofit Tutoring Program

By Brenda Panama

During the pandemic, a group of students from Los Angeles created an organization called Bored of Boredom. Bored of Boredom (BoB) is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to providing free education for all students, especially during the pandemic. BoB started its first individual tutoring from grades K-8 with 200 tutors. Slowly, BoB started to create publicity for themselves through their social media platforms, contacting celebrities, and several non-profit organizations for collaborations and shout-outs. At times, there were no responses from celebrities and no emails from the organizations that were contacted. However, as the saying goes, patience is key. In a few weeks, a celebrity with 1 million followers shouted us out and we gained over 400 followers. We were able to gain new tutors and students this past summer due to the hard work of the public relations team. Slowly, but surely Bored of Boredom started to grow.

You might be thinking, why is she writing about this program?

I am the Co-Head of Corporate PR for BoB. As a Co-Head, I oversee the expansion of Bored of Boredom to prospective tutors/students. We have over 500 tutors and 800 students. BoB now has a high school department program where AP check-ins are conducted and, individual and instant tutoring is offered through the discord. We are always in the need of new tutors or students for the high school program. Whether you want to join the AP check-ins or become a tutor for students K-8, BoB is perfect for you. All the services offered are free, and you are able to get a President Volunteer Award once 100 hours are completed with BoB as well. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity.
