SOCIAL MEDIA: Checking Out “Cafe V”

By Brenda Panama

The pandemic has harshly impacted the social lives of a great many people. In late June of 2020, 40% of people in the United States reported struggling with mental health or substance abuse issues due to feelings of isolation.

During the second semester MCSM implemented a virtual breakfast and lunch period where students can interact. Students have the ability to go to different breakout rooms to chat with teachers and play games. There are teachers who conduct daily kahoots, meditations, skribbles and etc. I conducted a survey to see how the virtual breakfast and lunch has helped students.

Below you can see the variety of people that have answered, from student to teacher and different grades.

Many people that have gone to the virtual breakfast/lunch offered have kept going and have said that they are grateful for a space where they can interact with students and teachers. Cafe V is offered every day (Monday-Friday) from 8:00 am to 8:30 am (0 period) and 11:22 am to 11:47 am (5th period). If you are interested in joining use the link below.

(PLEASE NOTE: Cafe V is a school community resource designed to promote safe, supportive interactions between the teachers and students of Manhattan Center.  Participate respectfully.)
