Rampage Staffers Talk About the COVID-19 Vaccines

By Deborah George

During one of our newspaper meetings, the Rampage staff began sharing opinions  about the widening administration of COVID-19 vaccines such as Pfizer and Moderna. We then proceeded to talk about the lasting effects of the pandemic. Here are a few quotes taken from our spontaneous discussion.

Q:  How do you feel about the vaccine and the administration of the vaccine?

Maddox B. : “I might take the shot, but just not right at the moment – maybe in a few months when more information comes out about the vaccine. Therefore, I can be more certain about my decision.”

Soyoung K.: “South Korea doesn’t really provide the vaccines right now. I think no one really took it so far. I think they started vaccinating the 60-70 years old, so not yet for teenagers.”

Nicole M. : “The scheduling was really hard to do. If New York and a lot of these places open a lot of walk-in sites, more people would go and feel more comfortable to go. It was hard for me and my family to get the scheduling at first. I know how hard it was for a lot of other people, especially a lot of senior citizens.”

Kaya M. : “In reference to the vaccinations, a woman said that she was in a really tough place. She lost her job. She worked as a massage therapist and was well into her 70s. Her doctor was like … the vaccinations are kinda like a risk for her. She lost a lot of clientele because she can’t really get the vaccine. It’s great that people can get it—and obviously who wouldn’t want to get the vaccines unless there are serious health concerns—but it’s also interesting to see other people’s stories be like, ‘this is kinda not available for me.’ So, the pandemic is still very real to these people. It’s interesting to see all of these sides, but none of them are fully reaching normalcy.”

Q: How do you feel about the reopening of public places such as movie theaters, concerts, stadiums, etc.?

Kaya M.: “I understand it is necessary, especially movie theaters, as we can expect a lot of people have gone out of business, and are also losing jobs. So, it is good to be re-opening, but I just worry that people are not going to be as cautious afterwards.”

Q:  Moving forward, what do you think should occur in order to help keep our community safe?

Nicole M.: “Even if you do get the vaccine, still wear a mask, especially if you just got the first dose.”

Soyoung K. : “I prefer to wear the N95 masks because the cloth masks don’t really have the filter for COVID. So, if you have a N95 mask, that would work.”
