POETRY: “A Solemn Knight’s Eulogy, As Told by a Peasant”

By Maddox Brown

Fast as the wind

A warrior with an elegant mind

Fighting to keep his home one

With his shield cast over the kingdom.

With his trusty stead, I name him Buck

And with his sharp lance and traditional shield,

He plows through barrages of enemies with little to no sweat

He was truly the show of the battle.

Some may say he was a one man army.

Others might say otherwise.

But in my eyes

He was a legend that deserves the utmost honor.

He was a Solemn Knight

And a good friend

Serious about his role

Amongst the grand army of the kingdom.

Whenever I saw him cross the streets

It was like he had his own shining light

Emanating all around him.

He was the highlight of the kingdom.

But there were times of drooping sorrow

Regretful of actions that he knew were wrong.

But he did what he had to do to serve the kingdom

Even when he knew the Tyrannical King was doing the wrong thing.

Putting his greed and power above all else,

He still has to serve the kingdom, it was his strict moral code.

Now the war is over.

Many have perished on the field of battle

Fog brews in the sight of the fallen

My dear friend is a part of them

In his honor, his lance plunged into the ground,

Standing erect next to him

He was a Solemn Knight

And also a good friend

But his soul is now one with the heavens
