The shadow
Always hiding behind something
I’d rather be the light
Shining through the night
Rising upon the hills
To be the light, waking everyone up
To be the light, reflecting off the sea
To be the light, illuminating in a dark room
If I could shine bright and not be overlooked like the shadow
I’d rather be the light
But now I realize,
I can’t run from the shadow
Because I will sometimes shine too bright
Where eyes need to be shielded
Wherever I go, the shadow will always follow behind
