The Summer Youth Podcast Academy application is now live!
Do you love storytelling? Interested in learning about audio journalism and podcasting?
You’re in the right place! In partnership with Gimlet Media, The Bell is looking for young people who want to dive into the world of podcasting and report stories about their communities.
The three-week summer podcasting academy will give you intensive, hands-on training that you will use to create your own podcast episode! You will have the exciting opportunity to work alongside professional storytellers, editors, and producers from Gimlet, an award-winning narrative podcasting company.
Dates and schedule
August 8 – August 26
Mondays – Thursdays from 10am – 2pmin person at our office in lower Manhattan. Some participation will be required on Fridays as well, whether through remote meetings or field trips.
Who is eligible?
Anyone in NYC ages 15-21 who attends or attended public schools (including charter schools). Past journalism or podcasting experience is not a factor in our selection process.
What will I get out of it?
Journalism and multimedia storytelling skills that will prepare you to pursue media-related fields
One published podcast episode (contingent upon timely completion of assignments)
$500 stipend contingent upon successful completion of the program, as well as daily lunch money
Opportunity to be considered for additional internship opportunities with The Bell
