After nearly two plus years of largely remote meetings and classes, Manhattan Center’s Newspaper Club is excited to increase its membership and in-person activities for the coming school year.
Key positions in our editorial leadership have been filled, but as of June 1st, we are still accepting applications from students for the following roles: Club Secretary, Photo Editor, Copy Editor, Proofreader/Fact Checker. If you want to know more about these positions and have both the skills and a passion for any of these roles, write to Ms. Cooper at Cooper409@aol.com or to Assistant Principal Kwan.
Next year we will have two students collaborating as Co-Editors in Chief. This editorial job is rigorous as well as time-consuming, demanding many different overlapping skills and tasks. Thus Editor in Chief duties will be jointly shared by Diana Sanchez and Nicole Manning.
Ibne Tamim will assume the important support role of Managing Editor. Although traditionally this is more of an administrative role of making sure club staff recruiting, weekly meetings, club trips/fundraisers, and monthly issues run smoothly, she will also help other club officers edit articles and groom new reporters.
Being high school journalists, we hold ourselves to the same standards of honesty and diligence as professional newspapers of record like The New York Times. Anyone who joins our club must acknowledge that factual and topical reporting—even when incorporated into opinion essays—carries the same social status as History because periodical journalism becomes part of humanity’s historical record.
As a school newspaper, the MCSM RamPage looks forward to collaborating with fellow media clubs like the Photography Club and the MCTV Team. Together, we all represent a multimedia training ground equal to those that exist at other top New York high schools. Hopefully in the coming years we will continue to inform and celebrate the entire Manhattan Center community!
