STUDENT LIFE: The 2021 Club Fair

By Soyoung Kim

On November 19th, 2021, MCSM held a successful in-person club fair in the school cafeteria.

Due to Covid-19, our annual club fair had to take place online last year. Since I run three clubs, I had been looking forward to this “LIVE” event, as it is the best chance for students to actively interact, ask questions, and raise their own money by selling snacks.

Clubs work to recruit new members during events like this, because with more active members each club becomes able to enjoy more group activities.  Clubs thereby contribute more fun to the MCSM community—and that’s why our in-person club fair was a welcome sign that our school life may be returning to how things were during the normal days.

Lots of people came to the fair in search of extracurricular activities to balance out an intense academic life. A great club offers opportunities for socializing, letting off steam, serving others, and learning new skills. Each club’s leaders and core staff members were more than happy to explain or even demonstrate what their clubs do.

Pictured above is our MCSM Rampage Newspaper club poster.

In the school cafeteria, students from grade 9 to grade 12—alongside many of their teachers—mingled at the club fair. Together they investigated the various skills, entertainments, and public service opportunities being offered.  Just by moving from table to table one could compare the merits of diverse after school activities.

Above, you can see a table run by the UNICEF club.  They made an informative club poster, which they then surrounded with all the snacks they were selling to raise funds.

It is not too late to join a club!  Although the Winter semester interrupts ordinary school routines with breaks and mandatory testing, you can start attending a club in January, or even during Spring semester when talent shows and group projects come due.

For example, Newspaper Club is always looking for dedicated young journalists with something to say and a clever way of writing it.  To join us, write the editors an email at:
